  1. calves, hip flexors, hamstrings, and thighs

  2. quads, hamstrings, glutes

  3. Quads

    Hamstrings

    Abdominals

Heart.  If you don't have a good cardiac output you won't be able to sprint anywhere.

  4. Glutes

    Hamstrings

    Obliques/Abs

Cardiac (I liked this from someone else's answer!)

Everything else is secondary.  Running is about putting power into the ground (for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction - Newton's Law).  When you run, you should be pushing yourself forward. If your ankle position is wrong you will end up pulling yourself forward and using your quads.  The quads are for a shock absorber and to bring your leg back into position after you foot goes back.  Calves should do very little.  If you are getting your calves and quads into the race too much then you are at a disadvantage.  These are relatively smaller muscles, if they get tired, the rest of you has to compensate.  Because you are putting in so much power into the ground and because your arms are smaller than your legs, your abs/obliques stabilize your body otherwise you will get upper torso movement.

    Good Luck!
