  1. The distance does not matter.  You do NOT want to be running on your heels, or "Heel-striking."  This has been known to cause some minor and major lower leg injuries.  As for running on your toes, if you are racing any distance 800 meters or shorter, it is generally accepted that you want to be more on your toes.  Anything longer than that, you usually will want to land mid-foot and roll through to your toes.  As for the lean, maintaining upright form will keep you from injuring your hips/back.

  2. This is for sprinting only and yes you do have to lean forward to properly balance the forward thrust.

  3. for sprinting yes. for distance running, it will start hurting your feet, and lower parts of your lower legs

  4. That is a way to run faster, but at an energy penalty.  Save it for the kick at the end.  You didn't say what distance you are training for.  Try practicing the technique during your training.  To run on toes you will have to raise your knees in your stride.  This will increase the length of your stride which will help your speed tremendously.  You must do it in practice a lot, if you want it to be there during your race.  Another way to help speed up your stride is to swing your arms a little faster.  Swing the arms faster and the legs will naturally follow the increase.  You need to be in fairly good condition for this to work.

  5. Ya for short distances. Don't lean foward to much.
