  1. I don't much care as to the brand...but they only help ALOT if you are a sprinter, very few will wear them for distance races, and usually only in Cross Country, there you tend to run throught dirt sand and mud, trust me, I ran a 2 miler on the track, my time was only 3 seconds faster, and my feet were beat!  Felt numb for half an HOUR!

But a tip?  Practice with spikes a bit, IF you're running practice sprints only in Tennis shoes, spikes may not be a good transion on race day if you never ran them before, I saw one guy on my team get smoked!  IT is a completely different feel, you can almost feel the rack, how you run, and shift wieght on the spikes.  Now go on and give'em a run for their money  ;)

  2. It depends on what type of running you do. For sprinting spikes are a must, they help you improve your traction and make you feel lighter and help take of time, and that is important in a short race. In longer distance it is more of a mental thing that makes you think you will run faster if you have spikes. But, if doing Xc and running on grass, spikes will help with traction and can help alot. PS shocks aren't spikes and they are the worst thing you can run in if you are a seriuos runner. Don't run in shocks, many of my friends have gotten inhured due to the way the shocks make you run, it puts to much pressure on the front of the foot and that is bad. Good lcuk.

  3. Go with Asics or Brooks if you're more of a cross-training/long distance person, Nike or Adidas if you're a sprinter.

And for me (a sprinter) they help a lot.
