Question:

Running shoes for shin splint prone legs?

I love running. Think it's my fave. way to keep in shape but I get terrible shin splints. I need a new pair but I am wondering if anyone has the same issue and can recommend a brand. Shoe shopping for me is almost worse than car shopping... So let me know what you use and maybe I'll check 'em out!

I really enjoy running, too!  Something I found out a long time ago is that you can't go by some other runner's experience when it comes to shoes.

Instead, go to a running specialty shop and communicate your needs to the (relatively) informed people who work there.  If they can do it, ask for a gait analysis.  Based on what you tell them, especially about the shin splints, and what they can see about the way you run, they can recommend one or more models that will match YOUR needs.

Getting new shoes will in some cases eradicate shin splints, in other cases, not.  My high school daughter used to get horrific shin splints every year at the start of the cross country season, until we found out about shin wraps.  It's another purchase, but something to consider.  If you do, go to a general sporting goods store and go down the "wraps" aisle, where you will find wraps made explicitly for shins.

What's really good about wearing these wraps is that while wearing them they not only alleviate the pain but speed up the healing process.

    Regards,

    Phil

  2. just buy a pair of patella bands. I used to think I had shin issues when I started real long distance stuff

....only thing was I played football my entire life all the way up through college and ran track and never had a problem.....just when I started the long distance stuff was where I felt the inflammation.

go to your sports authority or sports store and get a pair..you'll be fine I promise.
