I've been getting pains under my ribs on my left side, What should I do to stop this?

  1. try and avoid eating before running. also drinking anything with quinine in it (e.g. tonic water) helps to reduce chances of cramp.


  2. more salt in your diet might help. ie. ketchup has lots of salt.  and make sure you aren't eating too much before you run!

  3. Is it a cramp?

    To deal with cramps, I exhale twice as much as inhale (really PUSH the air out of your lungs).  After about a minute or two, they subside.

    If it's up in your ribs, you may just need to stretch more.  I'd do some full extension stretches (reaching over your head and tilting to one side and the other).  Try to align your spine and stretch everything in your core out.

    If it feels like it's under your ribs, it might be your back (since your spine aligns your ribs).  Work on stretching your back out more.
