  1. How many miles a day do you run? If you currently run 4-6 miles per day increase it 7-9 miles per day for a month, then increase it to 10-14 miles per day for a month, then increase it to 15+ miles per day...When I say per day, it is per workout. Take breaks between workouts of 2-3 days for recovery.  When training, use all types of terrain including climbing hills and running down slopes.

Keep your muscles warm by wearing sweats or layered clothing before and after running.

Set a goal for the race and try to reach that goal in your workouts. If you aim for a 5:30 mile in the race then, aim for a 5:30 mile in your workouts.

Maintain a healthy diet and weight program and see a physician to get a medical opinion on running a marathon.

Get a great pair of running shoes and comfortable socks to protect your feet all the time.

    Good luck!

  2. You find to find a marathon training plan that you're comfortable with. Different plans have different levels of commitment in regards to weekly mileage and time on the track. Also take into consideration if you're new to running or are a seasoned short-distance runner.

You may want to check out plans by Hal Higdon, Galloway, Pfitzinger (though he's advanced) and John Bingham before making any decisions. John's book "Marathoning For Mortals" is a fun, easy read with a lot of valuable information that you will find beneficial. :)

Most marathon training plans are in the 20-week range. So make sure you can make that commitment so you can build up your base and endurance in a safe, healthy way.

    Good luck!

  3. forget about distance for the first few weeks and concentrate on time. start out running for one hour 4 times a week and gradually build up to two hours after two months. once into a routine try to run at 5 mph for a distance of 8 to 10 miles twice a week then slowly increase to one 15 mile run once a week while maintaining your three shorter runs.in the last month or so before the marathon try to run one twenty mile distance along with your other runs

  4. run a marathon each day as a practice. If u think this is too much then u must be just taking a marathon as a joke.

  5. I posted an article in a blog on your first marathon training maybe it could help
