Running the ball?

I have a few questions:

-are you allowed to run backwards with the ball?

-are you allowed to block like you would in American football?

-are you allowed to juke?

-do you have to lateral?

can someone please explain the basis of running the ball.

  1. While you are allowed to run backwards, it is generally better to run towards the try line (like the goal line in American football).

You are not allowed to block or even stand in between a defender and the ball carrier. If the defender is forced to change his path because of you, it is an obstruction (and a penalty).

You are allowed to juke and it is quite common for backs (the main ball carriers to do so). However, the forwards (the big guys on the pitch) are generally more north-south runners.

Every pass has to be a lateral (thrown behind you). You are not allowed to accidently throw the ball forward (it is a knock-on) and possession goes to the other team.

    Hope this helped.

  2. In rugby union and league you can run with the ball until you are tackled or when you want to pass or kick the ball. You can run in any direction. IT is better to run towards the try line being defended by the oposition, Blocking is an obstruction and is a penalty.

    to juke?????

if a lateral is to run sideways it is permitted
