Hi Im in 7th grade (12) and just started running track. Today I ran the 100 meters at practice for the second time (the 1st was at a meet), and got timed. I clocked in at 13.7 seconds. Is that a good time? When I finished I wasn't short of breath at all and I felt like I could've gone faster but I was so far ahead of the other runners that I guess I didn't have a lot of motivation. I really want to get good and get a faster time. ~What are some things I can practice to improve?~ (ex:drills, exercises...etc)***My team has a championship meet next sunday (my birthday) and my dream is to get at least a half second off my time hopefully more ! PLease dont be afriad to give a long answer like a routine or something hahaha **oh and im also going to run the 200 meters ohh and ONE more thing sorry lol. how do i do the certain exercises

  1. Nice job.  I would focus on running to a point after the finish line to ensure, or try to, that you are running through the finish line.  Motivation is important too.  Pretend there's something you really want at the end of the race.  Find purpose in your racing.  I would practice starts, having someone watch over you to be sure you are exploding out of the blocks.  There are drills and plyometrics you can do over the summer to help with flexibility and strength.  Several sites should have them, or hopefully you have a coach who can help.  If not, let me know and I can list a bunch for you---just don't have the time right now.  Good luck!

  2. The best way to get better at running is to practice, practice, practice, but sometimes that isn't as easy as it sounds. The biggest part of improving your running is motivating yourself to get out there, as well has having the proper schedule and routine by knowing when to rest.
