Is it possible to run with your ipod to much?

I am training for cross country and I want to know if I have been running with my ipod to much. I just don't want to get into the habbit of listening to it and get in the habbit of it.

I ALWAYS listen to my ipod while I run. I run about 5 times per week.

  1. You can listen to faster rhythm songs, so that way you can run faster. And there's no such thing as "running with your ipod too much". ;] HOPE YOU WIN!! Or whatever. LOL.

  2. Yes, if you run with your iPod all of the time you will have a tough time in Cross Country season without your iPod.

Some people have found that after using their potable music players while running, and then tried running without it, they had a tough time not focusing on running.

If this is what you are asking, then yeah, I guess you would be able to match your pace with a song and eventually just memorize the pace and not use the music. I don't know if that's what you mean.

What I do, and many others do, is that they make a rhythm with their breaths. For example, two breaths in, one breath out, and they just focus on that throughout the run. Try it, it works a lot better than you may think.

    I hope this helped!

  3. i never listen to my ipod when i run because it distracts me from my running

  4. Music has been shown to increase the intensity of the workout.  Typical results show people are able to run longer faster in their workout.  This is also true for weightlifting etc.  This is why most gyms pump music through speakers for their clients.

Here is the downside.  If you equate your music to running and take it away, you may not be able to run as well.  If you always equate music to working out, listening to that music may motivate you to run.  Take away the music and the motivation may go away.

When XC starts up with your team, make sure to keep your music at home.  You will now replace your Ipod with your teammates.  This should have a positive motivating effect.

Bottom line is that when running for fitness, music is awesome.  Because they don't allow Ipods at meets, you should try to be less dependent on it.

    Good Luck!

  5. if your a serious runner then that wont happen..

you listen to your own rythem

    not the music

but i see where you are coming from try training without it too

  6. its all in your mind, music or no music your stamina will stay the same... frankly i always run with music that has no lyrics... like trance or something... i find that it helps me keep a steady pace... eventually i don't even realize that i still have my ipod on... therefore i came to realize that i don't really need the music after all... as long as you train yourself to focus on your rhythm and pace, music makes no difference, just serves as entertainment

  7. mmm well for some people it doesn't work but if you think it makes you a better runner, it's great. I run with music, because then I think it's boring, and I get energies from the music! So idk do what makes you feel better.
