Question:

Running with weights?

I was thinking about running a mile with about 50 lbs of rocks in a backback on my back. I was just wondering if it's worth it. I need to lose some weight, but i dont wanna cause any damage to my knees or my back.

Should I do this? Is it safe? Help!

  1. 50lb on your back? I think thats a bit too much..

I suggest using a lighter weight first and then heavier weight later on.

  2. dont put rocks in! They will move about and could seriously damage your back! If you want to lose weight you have to run in you 'optimum fat burnin range'. To find this you subtract you age from 220. this gives you your maximum heart rate in beats per minute! When you have this, you optimum range for burnin fat is about 60% of that figure! try to run at that range for s long as possible and you will lose the most weight!

  3. If you need to loose weight, work out longer,

    not harder.

Doing something like that without working up to it

slowly almost guarantees some sort of injury.

  4. Get those weights that strap to your ankle if you want to get your legs stronger, but if you want to lose weight, just run for a long time, but don't do it too often or your body will get used to it and think that it needs to save fat which is exactly what you don't want.

  5. ditch the backpack and run 3 miles

  6. Bad idea do one activity at a time.

  7. Definitely not safe, it'll ruin your balance, and you'd be way more prone to injury, and you'll kill your knees.

  8. WAY TOO MUCH, for even professional runner's that's extreme man. I'd just say get some ankle weights and run with those..

  9. i think you should buy ankle weights instead

  10. Don't run with any weights, I ran with only 2.5 ankle weights once and pulled a muscle and was out of the season.  Running with 50 pounds will increase your chance of getting injured by so much it's not even worth the risk, besides, if you hurt yourself you would probably gain weight because you'd be less active then.  I would just run longer, without any weights.

  11. If you are trying to lose weight just RUN LONGER.  You need cardio to lose weight.  If you want to gain weight and mass, THEN use the backpack with rocks.  It will build muscle and strenght but cause you to GAIN weight.

Just run a long distance, say 3-4 miles or so regularly.
