  1. I'm in a similar situation. The high school i'll be attending in the fall requires its students to do sports. One of the sports i'm doing is cross country. I'm 5'3" and weigh 115 lbs. I started training a few weeks ago. I would definitely recommend doing some stuff prior to the season, otherwise practices will absolutely kill you. For cross country, you should do weight training. I use a bowflex machine i have at home, but any kind is good. For practicing running, you should run three miles and time yourself. Even if you run out of breath, don't stop. even fast-walking is better than stopping. If you get a side stitch, try jogging backwards, and remember to breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth. If you run every day and continue to time yourself, you will definitely begin to see improvement through your endurance and your speed. Remember to wear good running shoes, drink plenty of water, and have fun!!

  2. your weight is fine. The reason for shortage of breath is because you may not be use to running at an anerobic pace (a high heart rate, gennerly over 175 beats per minute). If you just get tired from normal running, you just need to build your arobic base. meaning that you need to go for longer runs ( an hour or so) a few times a week at a low heart rate. Maby once a week, do some intervoles (high pace, race pace). like 4 times 4 minutes. This will condition your body to be prepared for running races. do this and you will be fine. dont worry about your weight.

  3. If you want to run faster, you have to run more and train faster.

In general, you should start with focusing on your aerobic base.  The more you run, the better your body will adapt.  You will become a more economical runner (basically run faster without using more energy).  And the bigger base you have, the more potential you can go faster.

To run faster, you have to run faster.  Have you consider doing track repeats? Hill repeats?

Those helps in getting your body use to running faster without fatigue.

  4. the best way to get better is to run everyday for 30 minutes. what helps me a lot is doing fartlek runs. those are kind of like interval runs. run at a fast pase, like 80% speed for 5 minutes, then jog at a cool pase for 3 minutes. repeat this pattern for about 20 minutes and you will def. get faster. you might be losing your breath because you dont drink enough, so before you run, down some water! and by running more & more, you will get better, and youll see results. also, you can go to a track and sprint the straights and jog the curves for a few miles, and that always helps me. start out slow & you will get better!
