Ruptured Achilles help?

I ruptured my achilles tendon at the end of June and have had a cast on since then. After 2 cast changes my foot isn't quite at the 90 degree angle yet so still not allowed to weight bear. Just wondering if any of you guys have done this and how did you get on once your cast was removed. How long was it before you managed to walk with sticks/crutches. What exercises were you recommended you did. Just an idea of what I can expect.

Thanks in advance

  1. I damaged my achillies tendon ages ago an sorry to say but for me it took along time before i could walk comfortably. But were all different

  2. Don,t wish to alarm you but i've started playing tennis and thought I had done the same but thankfully not. However my friend did rupture his and was advised to have an operation for a full recovery. he did and it was successful, but does not want to play any sport of sudden move ments. So his exercise is now confined to the gym or cycling. he was off work for nearly 4 months.

  3. Hi, I ruptured my A/tendon after one of my many falls of my horses, it took about 3 months before I could walk with crutches, I had Physio. Recovery time can vary, it was the most boring 3 months of my life!

Physio by eccentric calf stretching under resistance is generally done

  4. Generally while the foot is in the cast it is left at over 90 degrees so there is not too much strain on the tendon. After removal of the cast the routine is to give physio to stretch the tendon. You should not be left to deal with the problem on your own.
