I would have to choose rural. Rural people are more realistic, self reliant and down to earth. I also feel that rural people are more likely to protect their environment since they have a greater dependence on it.

  1. rural =]

  2. Rural.

The town I live in isn't very big and it's usually really calm.

  3. Both areas have their pros and cons.  Like you said, the people living in rural areas tend to be more down to earth and friendly.  The scenery tends to be more picturesque.  However, I must admit, I would probably miss the liveliness and convenience of urban life.

  4. Urban.    More confluence of cultures, more variety, more vibrancy, more of everything.    I was taking the late train home last night and had some time to wait - wanted to buy a notebook so I could write a letter to the woman I love.     D and R was open on Broadway.

You can't do that in southern Illinois.

  5. rural

  6. I was raised in the Big City, lived most of my life in suburbia, and am hoping to retire to a rural location. I guess I am leaning toward rural life. I may change my mind when I need an ambulance in a hurry, though. Some of the houses I've been looking at are pretty isolated.

  7. I prefer urban.  More to do.

Rural has its benefits too.  People are generally nicer like you said.

  8. well there are studies that carbon footprint is less in urban cities since places are within reach. and so what i see as an architecture student are cities built in tall towers where in residential spaces are on the higher floors while commercial spaces are on the lower floors,

and around these "city-towers" are protected forests and natural environment.

  9. Rural definitely.   But I can't find a woman to join me who doesn't' mind showering at least 5 times a week and shaves her legs.    They all want to be in the city.

  10. do you mean as a choice of place to live?  closest to where you work is the greenest approach.  I disagree about rural people being greener - they tend to be less educated than city folk, and drive big gas-guzzling trucks.  Their cows produce tons of methane and their farms use tons of man-made fertilizers and pesticides.  Farmers don't protect the environment; they exploit it.

the best solution would be for all of us to go back to subsistence farming, growing what we need and not paying someone else to do so.  we could do this while also doing other work
