Rushing through work?

My first grader rushes through his work at school sometimes, his teacher wrote SLOW DOWN dont rush, redo

He got it right if it was PLUS but it was MINUS so he doesnt pay attention

Is this normal does your kid or has your kid done this?

When he gets home we always redo it though i explained that if he expectes to go to 2nd grade with his friends he better slow down and get his work done so he doesn't get held back, and that I wont be happy if he gets bad grades becasue of rushing through his work and not reading instructions but im very willing to help him out at home if needed but if its school work he needs to do it at school and not RUSH or not read

  1. It is normal for a 1st grader not to want to "waste" time on school work. Try to set time aside at home to help him with his homework. If he doesn't have any homework on a certain day maybe review work he did at school. He will probably enjoy having the one on one time with you even if it is devoted to school stuff and it may help him get more interested in his studies.
