Ruslan Provodnikov beats David Torres, Alisher Rahimov nails Ji-Hoon Kim – Boxing news
ESPN 2’s Friday Night Fights presented a bout between David Torres and Ruslan Provodnikov along with a co-main event that is a brawl between Alisher Rahimov and Ji-Hoon Kim from South Korea.
The main event took place in the light welterweight category whereas the co-main event was fought in the lightweight division. Ruslan, the Russian number two and world’s number 23 emphatically overshadowed his opponent David Torres. Torres, nicknamed the
El Torito, was knocked out by the young 28-year-old Russian in the sixth round of the 10-round bout.
Both men possessed almost the same experience even their stats are somewhat equal. David, 33, stood in the squared ring a total 26 times and came out victorious in a total 21 brawls. His was able to capture 13 wins by knocking out his opponents. Ruslan,
on the other hand, had the experience of taking on 21 opponents before David and won a total 20 brawls. He has lost just one bout and his 20 wins consist of 14 by knockout.
Ruslan’s knock out percentage was a bit higher than his American opponent. But these stats meant nothing and each and everything went in the favour of the Russian Ruslan. The bout started and ended in the sixth round when the young gun scorched David off
his energy by the continuous punching strikes. As a result of the well aimed and targeted fist shots, Torres soon lost his senses and laid flat on the ring floor leaving the referee no choice but to end the bout in Ruslan’s favour.
The second main event of the Friday night was between Asian Pacific Lightweight Champion Alisher Rahimov and South Korean super featherweight/lightweight boxer Ji-Hoon Kim. The duo tried their level best to knock out each other but the resilience level in
both men was too high to allow the other one to achieve his ambition. The 10-round bout eventually ended and after the three judges -- Tom McDonough, Joel Scobie, and Glen Hamada allocated 94-96, 93-97, and 92-98, the brawl was awarded to Ji-Hoon Kim.
Kim had a clear upper hand over his 27-year-old opponent not only in stats but also in the experience. His 29 bout experience led him to get a convincing win over Alisher, Ghana’s number one and world’s number 125. The event took place in the Northern Quest
Casino - Airway Heights, Washington.
