Russanda Jess runs on to A4 victory at Sheffield
In greyhound racing, an early pace makes a big difference for a dog who is hungry for a big win. Russanda Jess’ (7-2) early pace from trap one worked wonders for her, as she won one of
several 500m A4 races at Sheffield Greyhound Stadium.
Despite not being the favourite to win, Russanda Jess turned in a strong performance. Her early pace allowed her to hold a commanding lead at first, resulting in a great finish of 29.80.
Finishing 2½ lengths behind her was Deanridge Flash (7-2), who had every chance to win this race. He would go on to finish the race with a time of 30.00.
Third place was claimed by Piece Of Gold (6-1), who moved slowly away and crowded first. He only lost a ½ length in the process, as he finished in 30.04. Havana Hero (4-1) was the fourth-place
finisher. He moved slowly away as well, but crowded third. His finishing time of 30.08 was just a ½ length out of the top three.
Brooklawn Gear, the 5-2 favourite, disappointed many by finishing in fifth place. Despite having every chance to win, he failed to capitalize on the opportunities presented to him. He
would go on to complete the race in 30.14, ¾ lengths behind the favourite. Paddys Volcano, the 10-3 long shot, crowded first and third en route to a last-place finish. He was 1 lengths behind Brooklawn Gear in 30.22.
Following the A4 race was an A3 race that saw 5-2 favourite Go Green emerge as the winner. Despite having crowded first and fourth, he still managed to lay claim on the top spot, finishing
the race in 30.17. Runaround Jimmy (3-1) also crowded first and fourth, but quickly rebounded to finish a neck’s length behind the winner in 30.19.
Cabanas (3-1) ran on to a third-place finish in 30.20, missing out on second place by a shoulder’s length. Hot on his heels was 11-4 long shot Coolavany Mint, who challenged three-quarters
and crowded fourth. Her finish on 30.20 matched that of Cabanas, placing her a shoulder’s length out of the top three.
Fifth place went to Graigues Flash (6-1). Coming out of trap one, he moved very slowly away and crowded fourth on the way to a 30/26 finish that was ¾ lengths behind fourth place. Bringing
up the rear was Answer Me (5-1), who failed answer to call to victory. He crowded and was forced to check first, resulting in a loss of 2 lengths. He finished the race with a time of 30.42.
The races at Sheffield Greyhound Stadium are set to resume on Tuesday, 2 November. The first race of the evening begins at 18:39.
