Domingo, who is serving as South Africa’s Head Coach since last year, was appointed the T20 coach after the board decided to manage Kirsten’s workload. The former opening batsman quit his coaching stint with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s Head coach, and his tenure has been an immensely successful one for the Proteas unit.
They defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 to take the no.1 Test crown, and further cemented their grip on the standings by outplaying Australia in the recently concluded 3-match series. The team further holds the top position in the ODI ranking for teams, alongside England.
However, given his eagerness to spend more time with his family, Kirsten duly handed over the day-to-day T20 affairs to Domingo, despite remaining accountable for all three squads. Ironically it was Domingo, who gave Kirsten his first taste of coaching after appointing him as a batting consultant during his time with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861.
Domingo has seen a gradual rise in his stocks over the past seven years. He took over the reins of a struggling Warriors’ outfit but in his five-year stint, guided them to championship glory. However, given the achievements of Kirsten, Domingo said he is eager to tap into the Head Coach’s thought process, before trying to instill his own culture into the team.
"Gary has said to me I should run with the ball but I always touch base with him. He is ultimately the man in charge and I cannot deviate massively from the processes he has put in place," Domingo said. "But I can do things differently and in my own way. To not tap into Gary's thought process and his brain will be foolish on my part."
Both teams lock horns in the first T20 on December 21, before the action moves to East London and Port Elizabeth respectively.
