Russell Henley retains the share of the lead at the Web.com Tour’s Chiquita Classic
Russell Henley of the United States carded a seven-under par 65 in the second round of the Web.com Tour’s Chiquita Classic, to tie for the top position, on Friday, September 28, 2012.
The tournament is being played at The Club at Longview in Weddington, North Carolina, featuring some of the prominent names on the Web.com Tour.
Earlier in the day, Canadian Brad Fritsch posted an impressive eight-under par 64 and surged to the top of the leaderboard.
However, it did not matter much to Henley, as he maintained his form in the tournament and kept on playing good shots on the course.
The University of Georgia alum, who shared the lead with four other players in the opening round, was the only player to retain his position, entering the last two rounds.
The American got off to a stunning start, as he birdied three of the first four holes that he played. Thereafter, he parred each of the next five holes and reached the turn with a three-under par score.
His back-nine performance was even better, as he added another five birdies to his scorecard against a lone bogey for a 13-under par two-round score.
According to the golf commentators, Henley’s performance on day two was really praiseworthy, as he battled his way through the windy conditions to record the second best score of the day.
"It was nice to get some birdies early and I didn't press the whole day. I just stuck to hitting my shots at my targets and let it happen," Henley said.
He added, "I think the 40-foot bogey save at No. 11 really kept the round going. I'm learning to deal with things better than I have in the past even though you are never completely comfortable out here. I know how to deal with being in contention but I'm
also still learning”.
The 23-year-old currently ranks 35th in the Web.com Tour money list. Therefore, he now has a great chance of making it to the top-25 in the list.
The top-25 players on the Web.com Tour will get automatic qualifications for the tier-one US PGA Tour next year.
