Russell Martin still not sure over his future with the New York Yankees – MLB Update
Catcher Russell Martin, who has played last Major League Baseball season with New York Yankees, is still not sure over his future in the league.
He is waiting to test his free agency with another team in the league potentially in the American League. Though the New York Yankees have still not mentioned in the media about Martin’s re-signing but the front office does look certain that they will be taking some decision to add some more experience players.
“They've been dragging their feet, People believe he really wants to stay with the Yankees and the Yankees don’t have anybody in-house to replace him,” an industry source said of Martin’s camp in dealing with teams.
Martin is a good player and knows his worth. He is an experienced player and many teams are looking optimistic to add him in their respective roster.
Currently the New York Yankees' Ichiro Suzuki is also experiencing such time in the league. He is also waiting for the Yankees’ management to take quick action on his latest situation.
“They’re going after pitching first which is what the Yankees normally do, There has been a lot of interest [from teams] but he enjoyed playing for the Yankees so much it’s hard for him to say no to the Yankees. His preference is to stay there instead of going someplace else, but we’ll wait and see,” said Ichiro Suzuki’s agent, Tony Attanasio.
Martin, who has spent almost six years in the league so far, is considered one of the most talented players in the league.
He last played for the New York Yankees in the past season, where he achieved .211 hitting average along with 21 home-runs, 53 RBIs and .311 OBP.
On the other hand, Martin’s career hitting average is also consistent with .260 along with 93 home-runs, 418 RBIs and .352 OBP.
Experts believe that Martin is highly talented and might be re-signing with the Yankees. Martin agent has already stated in the media that his client will accept a long term deal potentially with any team in the league.
