Is Russia a Rentier state? If so what resources does it "Rent"?

    The CIA Factbook notes that petroleum, petroleum products, and natural gas are Russia's top three exports, with timber and metals next. These account for 80% of Russia's exports and (officially) 30% of government revenues.

    This isn't as extreme as Saudi Arabia, but it is still pretty unbalanced.

    And it is clear that without the oil and gas income, the politics, as well as the economy, of Russia would have been very different.
