Russia, Chinese Taipei record wins: FIBA U-19 World Championship for Women July 26 Roundup (Part 2)
Egypt 20 – 0 Nigeria
Nigeria’s absence from the tournament meant that Egypt received a walkover on Tuesday. All of Nigeria’s games have followed a similar path up till now.
The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) is reported to have been responsible for Nigeria’s absence in this tournament. The players and the coach were equally upset at the last minute cancellation of the trip.
 China 53 – Russia 65
Group E saw a rather low scoring game, where Russia triumphed over China. Russian Center Ksenia Tikhonenko produced a praiseworthy performance as she scored 20 points and seized 8 rebounds. She managed to hit the target almost
90% of the time, as evident by her 8 out of 9 successful field goal attempts.
Ekaterina Fedorenkova played her role for team Russia by netting 17 points and grabbing 2 rebounds in just over 20 minutes. She also had a high shooting accuracy as she scored 6 of her 7 field goals at 85.7%.
The Chinese side, which produced a wonderful performance against the Americans yesterday, struggled to find their rhythm against Russia. Dong Yu was the only Chinese player to score more than 10 points for China. She managed 13
points along with 4 rebounds in her 25 minute spell.
The game got off to a slow start as Russia led by 6 points at the end of the first quarter. The Chinese managed to outscore the Russians by 1 point in the second quarter and managed to keep the halftime score to 25-30. China further
reduced Russia’s lead to just 3 points as the third quarter came to a close. However, they could not replicate the fourth quarter performance, they showcased against USA, and scored only 9 points against Russia’s 18.
Chile 41 – 66 Chinese Taipei
After a crushing defeat at the hands of Australia yesterday, Chinese Taipei came back and produced a solid performance to ward off the home team. Jung-Hsing Liu, the Chinese Taipei shooting guard, banked 17 points to go along with
the 8 rebounds. I-Hsiu Cheng was not far behind with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
The Chilean team displayed a poor performance, with no player scoring in double figures. Francisca Rojas managed the best figures with just 9 points and 3 rebounds.
The Chinese Taipei team took control of the game in the first quarter and by half time the score sheet read 15-39. Although the Chileans managed to cut back the deficit by 5 points in the third quarter, the Chinese Taipei team
finished the game off in the fourth.
