Russia, Tunisia and Belarus clinch success at Men’s President cup in Kazakhstan
The 18th Nursultan Nazarbayev President’s Cup International Men’s Volleyball Tournament is underway in Kazakhstan with eight teams. The campaign is scheduled to cover its length from August 22-27. The Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) is the officiating
authority of the competition. The tournament was opened with the preliminary round robin matches on Monday. Russia, Tunisia and Belarus emerged as winners of the Day-1 matches. The Boluan Sholak Sport and Culture Palace in Almaty, Kazakhstan hosted the thrilling
volleyball performances, while good turn-out of fans was recorded on the opening day.
Russia vs. India 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-12, and 25-22)
Russia was challenged by Team India in the first match of the tournament. Fakel NovyI Urengoy Volleyball Club is representing Russia at the Nursultan Nazarbayeve President Cup. Russian team opened the match on a high note and PanteleyMonenko who was known
for hard-hitting of the ball. Indian blocker Kapildev offered some resistance to Russian strike but overall India couldn’t save the first set. Russia seized early win of opening set with 4-point lead.
India hit back strongly in the following set and showed a lot of aggression. They used good offensive attacked and levelled the game score by winning second with the same score of 25-21. Russia was clever to break the tie of scores in third set. They grasped
the game plan of Indians and came up with proper remedy for them. Russia captured third set and extended its lead to 2-1. India could only score 12 points in third set. After a humiliating defeat in third set, Indians sought revenge from Russia in the fourth
set. They played well and created enough trouble for Russian libero but couldn’t avoid the chances of defeat anyway. Russia closed off fourth set at 25-22 and bagged first win of the tournament.
Belarus vs. Iran 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-21)
The first meeting of Belarus and Iran at the President Cup in Kazakhstan was quite a hot affair. Both teams had done their home work and staged a wonderful game. Belarusian Head Coach Aliaksa Sinhaeuski proposed a great plan to his team, which led them to
success. First set of the match progressed with close difference of points. Long rallies were exchanged and ball kept rolling over the net for better time. Belarus’ Anatoli and Oleg exhibited a convincing performance and secured first set 25-22.
As it was expected, Iran came up with an angry response and hit the ball from all angles. Alireza Jalani staged an exquisite play and led the scores for Iran. Belarus tried to stop Iranian score but couldn’t succeed in doing so. Iran hit the equalizer in
second set by throwing 25-18 on board.
It was an even play up till the second set but Belarus outshone the Iranian team in following two sets of the match. Iran used its best substitutions and resisted in full force. However, Belarus was destined to win the match. They pulled off success in the
last two sets and declared match victory over Iran.
Tunisia vs. China 3-0 (25-17, 25-19, and 25-21)
Tunisia posted an amazing straight set win over China in their opening match of 18th Nursultan Nazarbayev President’s Cup International Men’s Volleyball Tournament. Chinese team failed to overcome the power of strong competitor and gave up in three sets.
Ismail Moalla of Tunisia was the top-scorer of the match.
