what is going on?

why is south ossetia being the one bombed??

why did georgia take over the capital??

why are russia and georgia fighting over the land when it belongs to a different country? (even though not recognized)?

a dumbed down version of the entire happenings would be great

The south ossetia wants to be part of north ossetia which is in russia, so basically s.o. wants to be part of russia

Nothing better to do! As it is with military conflicts, some guys with super egos have a whole bunch of guys with low IQ fighting against each other.

S.O. and Abkhazia claimed independence from Georgia

Civil war happened.

Russia put peace keeper garrisons in OS and Abkhazia (with UN mandate?)

Russia allowed S.O. to apply for Russian citizenship

Aug. 1 - 7 Fighting between Georgia and OS paramilitary. Both sides blame each other

Aug 7-8 Massive offensive by Georgia. Tskhinvali shelled/bombed by Georgia. Reports of 1300 civilians and 10 Russian peacekeepers killed.

Russia enters tanks ad allegedly bombs Georgian airbases.

Well after Georgia declared independence from the USSR, south Ossetia declared independence from Georgia, causing a civil war and a cease fire to take place in the 1990's, thats whats going on

S.O. ( south ossetia ) is trying to be recaptured by Georgia and Russia has ALOT of its troops in S.O., thats why its being bombarded

The S.O. capital is key to taking back that region, thats why Georgia took it over.

That land belongs to Georgia and Russia supports S.O., thats why there fighting, and S.O. is an illegal country like how the Confederate States of America was

Russia had UN backed peace keepers within S.O. and they incurred into the Georgian soil and Georgia fired at them(witch they had the right to do) now the Russians are saying that this new invasion force are peacekeepers going to enforce peace.....(witch is BS peacekeeperss are only observers not combat troops) so this hideing behind peackeeper title is total bull
