Russia's attack on Georgia...?

Question

This definitely proves communism still exists. Not only is Russia pretty much taking Georgia,(No, moron. Not the state...) but they are talking about launching an attack on Poland, should they get missile defense from the U.S. What do you think of Russia and their motives?

  Nearly Everyone in the West  thinks that Russia is still a communistic country. Unfortunately it's not true. Russia is a state capitalist regime. You think that the Cold War between the U.S. and Russia (for some ppl it's still the U.S.S.R. :) )still exists. We are not going to bomb any country in the world. We want the countries near our border being parthners with us. And when the U.S. made "colour revolutions" appears in the countries traditionaly friendly to us. We have to fight back.

russia and the motives? american ignorance at its best. the media is incredibly munipulative in the US. they never report that georgia attacked south ossetia first upon which russian peace keepers moved in.

if you actually saw photos of south ossetia after the attacks, you may have a different view.

It doesn't prove communism still exists.  It proves Russia won't sit by while Georgia moves aggressively against an area that is decidedly Russian (not Georgian) in many aspects.  It's a touchy, thorny area and Georgia had to know showing force in that area would exact a response.  I believe their initial action killed a number of civilians and Russian peace keepers.

I'm no big fan of Russia, but Georgia's culpability in this whole affair has been largely ignored by the media.

From what I have heard, the Georgian government was oppressing the people of South Osettia.  Also, the people of South Osettia are pro-Russian, and they do not agree with the Georgian government.  Also, you must remember that it was Georgia who sent their armed forces into South Osettia first.  Russia then moved in to protect the people of South Osettia.  I feel that Russia had every right to do what they did in Georgia.  The Georgian president likes to portray this as a Russia versus West attack.  However, his rhetoric is simply being used to try and lead us into battle.   It is very obvious that he believed that we were going to help them militarily.  After all, look at his comment toward McCain about going from words to deeds.  Georgia provoked this incident, and Russia put them in their place as they should.

Now as for the Poland issue.  I do not agree with a strike against Poland.  However, I can understand why Russia would feel threatened with a US missile defense in Poland.  I think we need stop bullying everyone.  Bush has called the Russians the bullies, but clearly it is our 'we know what's best so listen to us' attitude.  We are the bullies, and that needs to stop.  I have several friends who are not from America, and they tell me the exact same thing.  It is harder for an average America to see this, but from the outside looking in, it is quite evident.  So, if Poland does get attacked from Russia, then we only have ourselves to blame.  We must go to the source, and that is our totalitarian government.

Georgia attacked the Russians first. But, I do not think communism is a good idea because it gives the ruling class the super power over the masses. That class controls everything meanwhile the masses are poor and poorer.

The US needs to shut up....I do not think they will attack Poland.

I dont think it proves that Communism still exists.  Instead it proves that Putin is now a dictator, who is back to ruling Russia with an iron fist.  And he plans on restoring Russia to its previous position of power on the world stage.  I just hope he doesnt start WW3, which could easily go nuclear.

Russia is certainly attempting to reassert its regional dominance.  That being said, the NATO alliance is being tested like it hasn't in twenty years, and Europe must stand up for its NATO allies before the USA sends over any of its military.

Remember, Senator McCain assessed  Putin back in about 2002 (I may technically be wrong on the year, but not his assessment of Putin) as seeing three letters when he met him...a K, a G and a B.

Communism is definitely and is always evil. The answerer "Mary something" and "whosomething" and others who support communism and the devil Russia, go and boil your head. Do you know that millions of lives were killed because of communism such as the mass murder "STALIN"? If you like communism and the devil Russia, I believe and I totally agree that the USA government should seriously consider strip off your American citizenship and kick you to communist countries like Cuba and let you torture by communism because the America laws states that communism is still being banned in the USA. Communism is not a bad idea, it just simply does not work when you add the human factor.

I'll let everyone else explain the Russia/Georgia violence, but war does not equal communism...this has nothing to do with Communism.

Russian_Girl- please do not assume that no one in the States knows what communism is, there are morons in every county.  The Government and media have put a spin on the violence, that I cannot deny.

The Russians are trying to intimidate all of the former Soviet satellite states.  It didn't work with Poland - in fact it had the opposite effect because as part of the missile base deal, the US is now in a mutual defense agreement with Poland so an attack on Poland is the same as an attack on the US.  Therefore, Russia will not be attacking Poland.  This will only drive the Czechs into doing the same as Poland and the Ukraine will even try harder to get into NATO.  This was a stupid move by Russia.

I think the US under Bush has got itself bogged down in a lot of poorly planned, poorly executed military commitments that it can't decide how to get out of, and Russia is taking advantage of the situation.

And Russia will probably get a lot of mileage out of it.  

Bush has proven himself a feckless bumbler.  I think he will either make the US look completely impotent, or he will accidentally start a war which his country can't afford, in which a great many people are going to get killed unnecessarily.

Uh, and Russia hasn't been communist for many years now...

Communism has nothing to do with this.
