  1. Are some answerers not getting a little confused. A parallel situation to what has happened in Georgia (which is now an independent self governing democracy and no longer part of the Soviet Union, like it was when Stalin ruled), would be if Anglesey declared independence from Great Britain on the grounds that its population were Welsh speaking and did not want to be ruled by the English. If British police went into Anglesey to restore order within the sovereign boundaries of  Great Britain would it really be acceptable to us if Ireland sent in tanks and aircraft into Holyhead as well as bombing residential areas of Manchester, Liverpool and London and set up a blockade of all English seaports to stop all cargoes coming in "to enforce peace"?

  2. People already know the result of wars... So, why people insist? Am I too naive or is there people in the world who still think like me?

  3. The U.N. doesn't have a real army.  They only have a few thousand "peace keepers" whose job is basically to help distribute food and to protect refugee camps.

As far as where the other soldiers are, most countries don't rush into combat until one of the other nations has declared war.  They won't fight in a foreign "skirmish."  Now that Russia has said it is in a "state of war," other countries may begin to take sides.

Keep in mind that the Iraq War and Afghanistan have worn a lot of countries' military resources down.  Their citizens might not be excited about joining another war.  The U.S. has troops already spread out in Afghanistan and Iraq.  The U.N. already has its peace keepers in Sudan.  With national economies teetering on recession, I don't think many countries will be in a financial position to put resources into fighting Russia.

Plus, during this time of the Olympics there is supposed to be a sort of truce against war.  Even though Russia and Georgia are involved in conflict, the rest of the world is traditionally politically-inclined toward peace during the Olympics.

Expect years of diplomatic wrangling and threats of sanctions.

  4. Georgia's attacks on Ossettia.

    There,fixed.
