russia was planning the onslaught for years. its a coincidence that they attack georgia right when theyre about to join NATO. i think they didnt want a NATO country that close to itself and the Ukraine has been seeking NATO membership so that means theyre next. Russia also wants to countrol the oil Pipeline from Georgia-Europe to controll part of europe's energy supply. russia's been building its forces along the georgian border for years and now they finally have an excuse to invade them. i lost all respect for russia now...

Russia was there for peacekeeping, after Georgian invasion into the breakaway region, Russia moved into the region with heavy troops.

I think the provocation was by Georgia, although the situation was dangerously tense during last weeks.

I know that Russia passed the peacekeeping lines, entered Georgian territory and bombarded Gori, Poti and Tbilisi - which caused casualties.

I think in any case, President Saakashvili seriously damaged future of Georgia by this heavy miscalculation.

Georgia claims territorial integrity, but if Georgians consider S. Ossetia part of Georgia, then people there become Georgia's citizens.

It seems that Saakashvili only wants the S. Ossetia territory, not the people.
