Modern Russian elite deals with world resources trade, they&#039;ve got bank accounts and real estate in Western countries, their children study abroad, they like travelling. They don&#039;t need any isolation. War would be very bad for them. So conflict with Georgia doesn&#039;t fit this row.

This conflit was imposed by US to produce exactly the impression you got.

Whats wrong with politics is the answer. Politics was created on the basis that it would end war by discussing a matter instead of fighting over it. Russia did it. The US is doing it right now as well. It has to do with different ideas and &quot;money hungry&quot; companies. How can anyone justify killing when murder is illegal? There is nothing wrong with Russia. The countries you listed have done the same in their histories as well. Its whats wrong with humanity and war. Politics and religious politics control over the naive and those who do not question. Needless wars in the name of what? That&#039;s whats wrong.

Russia&#039;s model of empire was developed by Peter the great and hasn&#039;t changed much over the centuries. Being a landlocked nation with no warm water ports leads to a certain sense of claustophobia and encourages expansion.

Also a national sense of paranoia that requires buffer states to absorb any threats from the outside are desirable.

USSR went broke and in 1989 and collapsed in 1992. Nothing really changed, it simply gave Russia a hiatus to retrench. Russians aims, goals and methods will never change.

Putin&#039;s election, the KGB chief, was a clear indication of that.

After the unilaterial Iraq fiasco engineered by Bush, it renders  any moral stance the US can provide hilarious. Russia&#039;s behavior in Georiga is for the same reasons, follow the oil. In this case, controlling the pipeline to Europe.

Russia invaded Poland, Hungry and Georgia FIFTY YEARS AGO. A few years earlier n**i Germany did exactly the same thing. A few years before that Japan invaded China, and most of the Asia Pacific region. Before that France and England between them invaded most of India and Africa and a sizable chunk of the Asia Pacific region. Before that America invaded Indian country, and so on.

If you want to criticize Russia, then you must also criticize half of the developed countries in the world. Invasion isn&#039;t a Russia thing, it&#039;s a human thing.

FYI, Russia didn&#039;t invade Georgia. Georgia invaded South Ossetia and Russia responded by moving in to neutralize Georgia&#039;s military bases in the region to ensure that when it pulls out Georgia doesn&#039;t simply invade South Ossetia again. This is no more than what Nato did in Kosovo/Serbia, and no more than what America and the UN did to Iraq during the first Gulf War.

Maybe someday the world will realize that the people of Russia are just not into being represented by anything but an authoritarian regime hellbent on regional domination. The same thing they have had for over 200 years now. If the rest of the democratic freedom loving world ever realizes this maybe they will finally isolate, through economic sanctions, boycotts and a missile defense/offense system that surrounds the entire country from all of southern and east Asia to Southern, Eastern, Northern Europe and the Arctic circle (Iceland, Greenland, Canada, Alaska,U.S.)
