Russia Open 2012: Vladimir Malkov, Vadim Novoselov prove their class in Men’s Doubles opening round
Men’s Doubles team Vladimir Malkov-Vadim Novoselov cleared first round of Russia Open Grand Prix after beating Sergey Shumilkin-Vasily Kuznetsov on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
This opening match lasted for 41 minutes and both contenders put great show of skills to register final score of 12-21, 21-19 and 21-12.
The victorious Russian duo earned a ticket to quarter-final round after this splendid win and now they will test their chemistry against another compatriot pair Artiom Derbenev-Alexey Vinogradov.
Earlier in pre quarter-final contest, they took some time to understand their rivals’ game but after receiving a severe blow in first set they switched on their best and prevailed in the last two sets.
The scratch pair of Sergey Shumilkin and Vasily Kuznetsov set the overall pace of the match by playing fast badminton in the first game.
They were a bit sluggish in the beginning and trailed behind until 5-2 but they proceeded at top gear in the remaining part of the first half.
They gathered six points without any interruption and placed a formidable total of 11-6 at mid-game break.
After the interval, Sergey and Vasily injected more intensity in their attack and doubled the lead until 16-8. They bagged first match point by registering 21-12 score on the board.
However, Vladimir Malkov and Vadim Novoselov showed transformed character in second set and stopped match from being a dead contest.
This time they launched an effective counterattack strategy and outclassed their challengers in all departments of game.
First half of the set heated up with their unstoppable invasion which fetched four vital points in a row. They magnified the impact by putting convincing total of 11-8 before half time.
The twosome of Vladimir and Vadim kept dictating their rivals in later part of the game also and finished this segment with a decisive figure of 21-19.
They did not lose this rhythm and stamped their supremacy in the third set. They only faced trouble when the opposing team caught them at 10-10 but seven continuous rallies tipped the scale in their favour.
Vladimir Malkov and Vadim Novoselov displayed superior finishing skills and raised their hands as Champions after putting up a concluding margin of 21-12.
