Russia Open Grand Prix: Evgenia Dimova ends Sabrina Jaquet’s winning run at quarter-final stage
Russia’s talented shuttler Evgenia Dimova proved her elevated skills against the in-form Sabrina Jaquet of Switzerland and stopped her winning run at the Women’s Singles quarter-final stage in Russia Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vladivostok, on Friday, June 29.
The Russian was impressive in her approach and planned game as she did not show any sign of confusion on court and outplayed her Swiss opponent in a thrilling contest that was 39 minutes long.
The local shuttler cheered her home fans by playing to her maximum potential and overpowered her in rubber games with a considerable margin on the score board.
In the meanwhile, Sabrina showed her confidence in the opening set and took it easily but got a stunning treatment from her rival in the second game and lost it with a huge margin. In the deciding game, she could not show her brilliance and lost it with
a comfortable score on the board.
In the opening set, Dimova troubled her rival in starting points and remained close until 5-5 but lost her focus and remained trailing on the board until the break.
After the interval, Dimova tried to stop the fireworks of Sabrina but failed to put up strong resistance and lost the first game to her with a 17-21 score on the board.
In the second set, the Russian showed her class as she played with precision this time and remained quick in all areas of the court. She managed a stunning lead on the board until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Dimova continued putting up an incredible show in front of her home fans and wrapped up the game in a convincing fashion by a huge difference of 21-11.
In the decider, both Sabrina played positive and focused badminton in opening half and remained ahead on the board.
After the interval, Dimova geared up her speed and ended the supremacy of Sabrina by keeping the pace at the maximum level.
The Russian remained on track and secured the game with a striking 21-16 score on the board.
Dimova won this thrilling Women’s Singles contest in 39 minutes with a sensational score of 17-21, 21-11 and 21-16.
