Russia Open Grand Prix: Sabrina Jaquet proves too strong for Olga Lipkina at round-of-16 stage
Sabrina Jaquet, a talented female shuttler from Switzerland, powered her way into Women’s Singles top-eight stage as she proved too strong for Russia’s Olga Lipkina in round-of-16 clash at the 2012 Russia Open Grand Prix on Thursday, June 28, in Russia.
The un-seeded Sabrina, who has been positioned at 68th place in Women’s Singles world rankings, was pretty much in control of the pace and dictated her local opponent all the way to secure a sensational victory.
The in-form Swiss shuttler did not let her Russian opponent to take charge of the game at any stage in the entire battle and easily finished it off in straight games with a superb margin by taking just 18 minutes.
In the meanwhile Olga played well in opening game but not enough to stop her Swiss opponent from winning the set. She failed to play fast and positive badminton in second set as her rival was too good and lost the match without establishing her worth.
Sabrina played aggressive badminton and took over the charge of rallies in the starting points of first game as she was aggressive and quick in the court.
On the other hand, Olga could not live up to expectations while playing against an in-form opponent and remained struggling hard to find a good flow.
The Swiss lady was composed in the court and she showed a little urgency in setting up an 11-7 lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, Sabrina raced away on the score board as she did not let her rival to close the gap and eventually took the game with a 21-16 score on the board.
In the second set, Sabrina gave a severe treatment to Olga by playing with impressive aggression and took a staggering lead of 11-4 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the higher ranked Swiss lady continued putting up stunning performance on court and thrashed her rival by grabbing the second game with a one-sided score of 21-14.
Sabrina ended up this Women’s Singles pre-quarter-final fight in a commanding fashion by putting up a 21-16 and 21-14 score on the board.
