Russia Open Grand Prix: Vladimir Malkov topples Vladimir Ivanov to surge into Men Singles final
Russia's passionate player Vladimir Malkov continued his giant killing run and reached into Men's Single final after beating his higher ranked compatriot Vladimir Ivanov in semi-final encounter at the Russia Open Grand Prix 2012 in Vladivostok, on Saturday, June 30.
The un-seeded Malkov showed his brilliance on court and proved his mettle while playing against Ivanov who was top seeded shuttler in Men's Singles draw in the event.
The lower ranked Malkov surprised the huge home crowd with his impressive skills as he did not let his top seeded opponent to take lead at any stage throughout the contest and wrapped up victory in straight games with a sensational margin.
In the meanwhile, the top seeded Ivanov failed to play at his best as he got worst possible treatment from his rival on court and bowed down to his without winning any game in a 34-minute contest.
Both Russians put up superb show by putting in aggression and remained close on the score board at the early stage.
The nervous Ivanov tried his best to play in gaps but failed to earn any advantage from his powerful smashes his rival was quite strong in his defence.
The un-seeded Malkov, on the other hand, showed his brilliance by playing attacking badminton and remained close to his rival until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, the score remained tight as both shuttlers progressed equally and reached at 18-18 when Malkov played tremendous badminton and took the set with a 21-19 margin on the score board.
In the second game, Malkov stunned his rival by maintaining his upper hand on court as he played at his best and took a smashing lead of 11-6 until the one-minute break.
After the mid-game interval, Malkov continued his striking run in the game as he was fully focused. He did not face any trouble from his higher ranked compatriot and took the set in an impressive manner with a 21-17 score on the board.
The in-form Malkov emerged as winner against Ivanov in Men’s Singles semi-final battle with a decent score of 21-19 and 21-17.
