Russia and Georgia, What The h**l?

hey, not at all up to date on why russia decided to invade in Georgia and I'm sure a number of you will have the answer .... ? so could you please give me the 411 ?

i don't know how it started, but now russia 's got a base or something in georgia, and the georgia president has politely asked them to leave, so they are going to, since there's been pressure from usa and uk and other countries.

Georgia was an independant democracy... not good in Russias' eyes.  Putin is a war-mongering son of a B i A t ch.

russia destroyed a georgian oil-line. gorgeia got pissed off. gorgia is trying to capitalize which is annoying the russians, because the russians feel threatened. They love to keep a good security boundary. but these breakaway countries want to develop and capitalize. this concerns them because all of a sudden america comes into the equation. america is beginning to provide aid.... russia said they would stop invading, but they clearly aren't yet, and have already lied about an agreement made with the US.

could be the cold war all over again..... :P

after fall of berlin wall 1989 many former soviet areas declared independence eg georgia and then started to align with west. historically russia regards georgia as part of its territory. many ethnic russins live in ossetia and abkhazia; russia sponsored them clandestinely to cause trouble. when rest of world engaged in olympics and US in iraq russia sponsored the ossetians to cause much trouble. georgian army responded and russia then went in 'to stop georgian aggression on russian nationals' basically a spanking for Goergia and reminder to behave or russian bear will chomp chomp

Well russia want a little tiny piece of land that georgia own and it's started like that.

My opinion is that, Russia wants to control the gas and oil pipelines that run through Georgia.
