Russia and Romania improve to 3-0 in Pool C – 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship
Russian and Romanian teams are going pretty strong in Pool C of 2012 CEV Women’s Junior Volleyball Championship.
On Friday, Russia downed Finland whereas Romania defeated Hungry. The Pool C is composed of six teams, which include Russia, Romania, Hungary, Finland, Greece, and Portugal. So far, Russia and Romania are staying on top with a perfect record of 3-0.
Romanian City Piatra Neamt is the home of action of Pool C matches, while Sala Polivalenta arena is serving as the venue.
In the first match of day-3, Russia scored 26-24, 25-12, 25-19 and claimed straight set win over Finland. Russian head coach Svetlana Safronova gave a winning plan to her team, which led Russia to another superb triumph in the second round of the tournament.
The Finns did not come as easy competitor for Russia. They had a strong defence and showed great quality in reception. In the opening set, Russian side trailed behind for better time. Finland maintained a nice balance in attack and defence, which forced
Russia to stay behind. However, the game of hit ‘n’ run continued up till the ending moments of first set. The Finns committed a couple of attack errors in the last moments of set, which created a great chance for Russia to take lead and finish the set at
26-24.
Despite a wonderful start in the game, the Finns suffered the loss of opening set. It was not only failure for Finland but it boosted the morale of Russia players. They jumped out of the gate in second set and quickly picked up lead. Finns tried hard but
failed to break the tempo of charged-up Russians. As a result, Russia enjoyed dominance in second set and rallied from 8-5 to 16-8. Finland could not sustain the pressure and ended up scoring only 12 points in second set.
Russia attained a strong position in the match, while Finland was dragged under tons of pressure. Russians controlled the operations of the game in third set and cruised past to 25-19 win and overall match victory in three consecutive sets.
The second match of Pool C attracted great number of spectators as the local heroines of Romania were up in the quest of victory. The host Romanian team went against neighbours from Hungary and clinched success by sending 3-0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-21) on board.
Romania had an obvious advantage of playing under familiar conditions and totally profited competitive edge. Hungarian ladies remained incredibly close to rival side but dropped all three sets in a row. Romania bagged a hard-earned victory and moved to 3-0.
Currently, Romania is staying top of chart in Pool C on account of its points’ ratio.
The wonderful action of volleyball will continue till Sunday and finally the two top teams of the pool will advance to next round. Russia and Romania are top contenders in Pool C.
