Russia beats Argentina by 3-0 in third round of 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup - Volleyball
The Russian national men’s volleyball team had a match with Argentina today in Hamamatsu, Japan, where the third round of the 2011 FIVB Men's World Cup is being played. The Russians were able to make a clean sweep over their South Americans counter parts
by winning 3-0.
Despite the fact that the Russians won the match in three back to back sets, the Argentineans did not go down without putting up a good fight. The first set of the match remained competitive all through until the end when the Russians were able to propel
themselves forwards and earn themselves the opening set of the game. The second set also started off on level ground with the two teams staying neck to neck with each other all the way to the end.
However, it was the Russian squad that stood out at the end. The loss of the first two sets of the game got the spirits and the motivation level of the Argentineans down and they did not perform as well. The slack in the performance of the Argentineans was
exploited by the Russians who earned themselves a relatively easy win and sealed the deal on the match at the following final set scores: 25-22, 25-23 and 25-19.
The coach of the Argentinean squad, Javier Weber, shared his feelings at the press conference that was conducted after the match reached its close in the following manner: “First my compliments to Russia and to their coach. They played better than Argentina
at the end of the sets. In the first and second sets they attacked better than us. We played well until we hit 18 points, and after this point I was waiting for some reaction from my team. But I think after 18 points Argentina quit.”
The coach of the Russian team, Vladimir Alekno, expressed himself by giving the following statements: “As for Argentina, I have known their coach since our playing days. He did a good job to bring much improvement to their national team. I expect their team
will be among the best in world in the future.”
