Spartak Moscow and the Russian national team midfielder, Dmitri Kombarov, has expressed his satisfaction over their 1-0 win in the third qualifying match of the World Cup against Portugal at Luzhniki stadium on Friday.
Fabio Capello’s army recorded their latest win in the cup competition on the back of a 4-0 win against Northern Ireland at home before defeating the Israeli team 2-0 at Ramat Gan stadium (Tel Aviv) last month.
As things stand, Russia are atop the group table with nine points. However, they have only until Tuesday to enjoy the leading spot as they will battle it out with Azerbaijan at Luzhniki stadium to retain the top-spot.
Kombarov, who did not get a chance to represent his country at Euro 2012 after sustaining an injury, thanked Capello for trusting him and giving him a chance to help his nation in reaching the later stages of the tournament.
The 25-year-old marked a virtuoso display against the Navigators after dominating the centre of the pitch alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Igor-Denisov-c16694 during the match.
However, there is little arguing to the statement that Russia failed to dominate the second-half of the match as the visitors enjoyed around 70 percent of the ball possession.
Kombarov admitted that they were lucky enough not to concede an equalizer during the last quarter of the match and urged his team-mates to improve if they are to win against big teams in the near future.
“The Portuguese forced us to play defensively during the second-half. They controlled the ball a lot and created some chances in the end. They made things difficult for us in the end. On the whole the game was hard but, thank God,
we managed to get the three points.”
“I think we need to worry about the team’s attack.” The former Dynamo Moscow player was quoted as saying.
Kombarov urged his side to extend their impress run by defeating their next opponent, Azerbaijan, on the same field.
