Russia clinches Women’s Team Routine preliminary meet - 2011 FINA World Championships
Swimmers from Russia impressed the packed arena in Shanghai on day four of the 2011 FINA World Championships in Synchronised Swimming. The meet was held in China, on Wednesday, July 20.
The session of the competition held the Team Routine preliminary meet, where Russia earned first place honours with a sterling score of 98.440 points. The Russian team consisted of Anastasia Davydova, Natalia Ishchenko, Elvira Khasyanova, Svetlana Kolesnichenko,
Daria Korobova, Aleksandra Patskevich, Alla Shishkina and Anzhelika Timanina.
In the meantime, China wound up second with a total score of 96.440 points. The Chinese team comprised of Jiachen Fan, Xuechen Huang, Tingting Jiang, Ou Liu, Xi Luo and Yiwen Wu.
Spain rounded out the top three winners with a total score of 96.030 points. The Spanish team included Clara Basiana, Alba Cabello, Ona Carbonell, Marga Crespi, Andrea Fuentes, Thais Henriquez, Paula Klamburg and Irene Montrucchio.
Canada wound up fourth with 95.280 points, while Japan settled sixth with a total score of 92.540 points. Ukraine finished seventh with a total mark of 91.960, whereas, Italy was placed seventh with 91.090 points. France earned the eighth position with a
score of 88.970 points and United Stated finished ninth, with 87.780 points. Great Britain grabbed the tenth spot with a total mark of 87.090 points.
Ishchenko took home the Women’s Solo Routine crown with a winning score of 98.550 points, while Andrea Fuentes of Spain earned the silver medal with 96.520 points. Sun Wenyan clinched the bronze medal with 95.840 points.
While speaking about her performance in the Solo Routine final, Ishchenko said, “I am happy with my performance. Today, I made three wonderful performances (in solo preliminaries, teams preliminaries and solo final). The secret of our achievement is that
we train for many hours, and our country's team is always the best. The Spanish swimmers are very good, and I'm very happy that they took second place.”
Russia now has the best chance of winning the Women’s Team Routine final crown, as the nation’s swimmers look in supreme form. The squad have already bagged many gold medals in the current World Championships, where Natalia Ishchenko has done a great job
in this competition.
