Russia defeats Egypt by 3-0: FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship
Russia and Egypt went head to head in Pool H of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship currently taking place in Peru on Tuesday, 26th July. The match was part of the second round of the tournament and was held in Trujillo as Russia
made a clean sweep over their rivals.
It proved to be a fairly one sided match because the Russian team took just 57 minutes to earn a victory over the Egyptians. The African team was smothered in the first set of the game but they showed some aggression in the second set but still lost. Playing
with a two set deficit and against a much stronger team did not do much to increase the morale of the Egyptians as the Russians won at the following final set scores: 25-10, 25-21 and 25-11.
The Russian squad has captured a total of two wins and an equal number of defeats so far in the tournament whereas the Egyptians have yet to win a match.
Egypt head coach, Mohamed Ahmed, made the following statements about the loss: “We knew that Russia was a great opponent, we played a good game but it was full of mistakes, thing which leaded us to defeat. Of course it feels bad to lose 4 games in a row,
but we take it as an experience. Every match we play goes to the amount of international matches that we play, so eventually we’ll go back to our country and we’ll play better.”
The opening set of the match took the Russians to a 9-1 position almost instantly. After this point, the Egyptians kept on the chase all through the set until the Russians had finally bagged it at 25-10. The superior performance of the Russians can also
be attributed to the fact that the Egyptians were having trouble blocking the forceful kills of the Russians because of the height difference between the two sides.
Impressively, the Egyptian side started the second set of the match with spirit and took the lead at 4-1. The Russians did not let the Egyptians go too far and made the set reach a tie at 12-12. As the match progressed, the Russians pushed to seal the deal
at 25-21.
The third set of the game started off with another Russian lead at 8-2. It was only a matter of time before the Russians secured the third and final set of the game at 25-11.
The player that was able to score the most points for the Russian side was Natalia Malykh, adding 16 points to her side of the score board. On the other hand, the Egyptian Yasmin Hussein was the highest scorer on her side, having earned 11 points for her
team.
