Russia destroy local hopes to meet Germany in semi-final clash – Badminton News
In the quarter-final stages of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011, Russia destroyed the local hopes by defeating Netherlands with a 3-0 score at Amsterdam, Netherlands.
In another quarter-final match, Germany got rid of France by winning the match with a 3-0 margin. Russia will be facing Germany in the semi-final battle of this mixed team event.
Russian shuttlers stopped the winning run of Dutch players in the quarter-final match of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011. The opening battle of the match was between the Mixed Doubles pairs of Evgeniy Dremin and Valeria Sorokina of Russia and
Ruud Bosch and Lotte Jonathans of Netherlands. The Russian players played superb badminton and won the match in straight games by 21-19, 21-13, in just 28 minutes.
The second fight was in the category of the Men’s Doubles, where Stanislav Pukhov of Russia defeated Rune Massing of Netherlands, in straight games in 35 minutes. The first set was a good fight between the two players and ended in favour of the Russian,
who won it by a 22-20 margin. In the second game, the Russian shuttler dominated the match and finished it by a huge margin of 21-11.
The third match, which also proved to be the last contest between Netherlands and Russia, was in the Women’s Singles category. Russian shuttler, Ella Diehl, took only 31 minutes to beat her Dutch opponent, Patty Stolzenbach, in straight games. Ella defeated
the local girl in a one-sided match with the huge difference of 21-7, 21-15. The 3-0 win over the locals pushed the Russian players into the semi-finals.
In another quarter-final match of the European Mixed Team Championships 2011, Germany defeated France and booked their place in the semi-final stage. The opening battle of the match was the Mixed Doubles encounter. German shuttlers, Michael Fuchs and Birgit
Michels defeated the French couple of Baptiste Careme and Laura Choinet in a thrilling three-set match that was 44-minute long. The final score of the match was 21-11, 17-21, 21-12.
The next match was the Men’s Singles clash between Marc Zwiebler from Germany and Brice Leverdez of France. The German shuttler remained on the driving seat throughout the match, giving no chance to the French shuttler to comeback in the game. The French
player was completely unable to answer the aggressive play of the German. Zwiebler consumed only 28 minutes to beat the French boy with a considerable score of 21-9, 21-12.
In the Women’s Singles match, Juliane Schenk of Germany won an easy game against French shuttler, Perrine Le Buhanic. It was a completely one-sided battle as the German girl overpowered the French player and clinched the match by a 21-4, 21-3 margin.
In the semi-final stage, German shuttlers will meet the Russian players, who have defeated the local team without facing any trouble.
