Russia didn't mess with the USA when we invaded Iraq, so should we extend them the same courtesy in Georgia?

No. First of all Iraq was not allied with Russia. Georgia is allied with the US. Also, Iraq was divided, some were willing to fight for the insurgency (government at that time) while others did not. On the other hand, Georgia is united and is a sovereign country with a democratically-elected government unlike Iraq's Saddam Hussein.

However, if the west gets military involved, a tiny war in the Caucasus could turn into all-out nuclear warfare or a world war. This is unlikely to happen since the west is already fighting a war in the Middle East and doesn't have the capacity for another war without mobilising reserve resources.

The uneducated will keep mentioning taxpayers money  in a time of global conflict.

NO. Russia needs to be stopped. And of course, the US is the only country with the means and also the nads to do this.  Let's just go in, and shut them down!  Let them come for us.

The neighborly thing to do would be for Russia to back off and stop creating trouble. After all they are a large country and should have more than enough problems without invading a country who they should protect.

I think that the USA should not get involve, it could be a nasty nuclear war, and the middle east war it is still going.

Of course, but if you think that the American defense industry which currently employs more than half the labor force of this country, and which is now undergoing recession because there is nothing left to steal in Iraq, is going to stand by and see an opportunity to sell munitions just slip away on a technicality, you are very much mistaken.

Well Russia just invaded and pummeled a Democratic ally of ours.  We went into Iraq on the false (but thought to be true at the time) assumption that they had weapons of mass destruction and ties to 9/11.  For better or for worse we thought we were doing the right thing, and if the Dems don't get in the way, when we leave Iraq, it will be better off than when we went in.

Russia on the other hand is just out for greed and blood, with absolutely no motive that can be justified.  Hardly the "neighborly" thing to do.  

Either way, two totally different scenarios.  Good thing you weren't in control when Hitler was doing what Russia is doing.

Now having said that, the US has spent enough time and money doing the job that all of the major countries in the world should be equally participating in.  Therefore, it should not fall solely to us to pay and provide military presence in any action that might come as a result.  It's time for the EU to do their share in helping make the world safe.
