Russia dominates CEV Junior European Volleyball Championship
The battle for supremacy is being fought by 12 European teams where Russia is also on the board. The teams have been allotted in two pools and Russia is associated with Pool-1 in the preliminary round. The team is accompanied by five other members including Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Turkey, and Germany.
The terrific Russian team produced amazing results in Pool-1 competitions. They totally stormed the volleyball scene in Belarusian city Brobruisk with an exceptional display of match performance. Russia was put against Belgium in their first match. The masses had gathered to witness the performance. The turnout was an estimated 2100, which is the highest number of spectators for the CEV Junior European Volleyball Championship 2010.
Russia vs. Belgium (28th Aug. 2010)
The Russian studs outplayed Belgium in straight sets (25-20, 25-21, and 25-21). Belgium struggled to chase Russia point charge and remained unsuccessful in breaking Russian rule in the game. The devastating spikes by Russia earned them quick points. Besides, they stayed focused on the ball and committed less errors. Their steady behaviour led them to the final victory over Belgium.
Germany vs. Russia (29.08.2010)
On the second day of the tournament, Germany challenged Russia on the courts of Belarus. Russia had the confidence of one win in the opening round and demonstrated a solid performance against Germany. Nonetheless, Germany proved to be hard contenders and created a buzz in the game. The first four-set match of the tournament progressed like a see-saw swing. Russia won the first set but Germany levelled the score by winning the second set. The Russian team promptly scored another set victory over Germany and built a lead of 2-1. Germany bounced back and snatched the fourth set from Russia. The match entered the fifth set with the scores tied. Russia broke the barriers and drove through the final set with a lead of four points and eventually triumphed 3-2 (25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 20-25, and 15-11) over Germany. It was a thrilling marathon watched by an estimated 1100 people.
Russia vs. Netherlands (30th August, 2010)
The Russian team opened the third-round and clashed with Netherlands. Both teams were unbeaten and had won two matches each. The Russian team performed better and extended their winning streak by overpowering the Netherlands. They posted 3-1 (14-25, 25-20, 25-14, and 25-13) to claim victory over the Netherlands. The rival team converted Russian errors into points and captured the first set but Russia returned in the next set. They ousted the Netherlands in the final three sets of the match and achieved an impressive victory.
Russia vs. Turkey (01-09-2010)
Russia stormed into the semi-finals of the CEV Junior European Championship 2010 by defeating Turkey. The Turkish team had good players but they couldn’t generate momentum against Russia. They demonstrated their level-best and sparred with the Russians for 82 minutes. Ultimately Turkey suffered a 3-0 defeat and Russia continued on their journey of success.
Poland vs. Russia (2nd September, 2010)
In the last match of opening round, Poland faced Russia and received a crushing 0-3 (21-25, 30-32, and 16-25) defeat. Russia won the first set with a margin of 4 points. The second set was close fight as the set ended 32-30, but there was no stopping Russia.
Russia successfully accomplished a 7-0 victory in Pool 1. The next competition will be between the two best teams from Pool 1 and Pool 2. Russia has qualified for the semi-final from Pool-1 while Serbia will represent Pool-2 in the semi-final match. Russia has bright prospects to make it to the final trophy of the Championship.
