Russia dominates Men’s 4*200m freestyle relay meet: Day six – 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships
The Russian relay team dominated the gold medal of Men’s 4*200m freestyle relay meet on day six of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships on Friday, August 12, in Coimbra, Portugal.
The team clinched the title of the event in a new Deaf World Record time of 7 minutes and 50.89 seconds. Their timing was considerably under the former record of 7 minutes and 56.66 second, set by Russia in 2009. Similarly, their timing was substantially
under the Deaf Championship Record time of 8 minutes and 10.39 seconds, also made by Russia during 2007.
The Russian team was chased by the Ukrainian squad, who remained nearly ten seconds behind them and ended their swim in the second fastest place, with a timing of 8 minutes and 00.10 seconds. They were trailed by the relay team of United States, which was
also 11.22 seconds behind the silver medallist and reported on the finishing wall in a time of 8 minutes and 11.32 seconds for bronze medal.
They were followed by Great Britain, which was only 0.05 seconds away from the third finisher and posted a fourth finest time of 8 minutes and 11.37 seconds. Subsequently, Kazakhstan’s relay team was the fifth fastest finisher of the event, as they remained
nearly 2 minutes and 14 seconds slower than their former finishers and clocked an effort of 10 minutes and 25.04 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Turkish squad failed to overwhelm the efforts of their foregoing finishers with a considerable margin of 19.86 seconds, as they ended their swim in a time of 10 minutes and 44.90 seconds. The final spot of the race was secured by the relay
team of Portugal, which was just 1.33 seconds slower than their preceding finishers and reported a seventh fastest time of 10 minutes and 46.23 seconds.
In addition, the crowd went wild after the gruelling efforts of all teams in the distant relay event, while the winners were invited on the medal rostrum to collect their awards and accolades after the completion of the session.
