Russia dominates Poland 3-0 in Pool H of FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship
Russia and Poland competed against each other in the second round of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship on Wednesday, July 27. The Pool H match took place in Trujillo and lasted for a total of one hour and eight minutes at the end of which
the Russian side celebrated their clean sweep over Poland.
The match was fairly one sided as the Russians stayed in control during most of the sets and were able to win each set of the match by a significant margin. The Polish team tried hard to challenge the Russians but they could not do much to stop Russia from
sealing the deal at the following final set scores: 25-19, 25-17 and 25-18.
Poland’s head coach, Grzegorz Kosatka, spoke after his team had lost the match and said, “We played a good match, but Russia played better. We had many issues blocking, thing which didn’t allowed us to win.”
On the other hand, the Russian head coach, Vadim Kiryanov, expressed himself in the following words at the press conference after the match: “Unfortunately we are not in the top 8, but despise of that we’ll do our best to improve and to win the next matches.
It was not so easy for us not to be in the top 8, things weren’t in our favor in the first round, we played against China, one of the best teams in the whole world.”
The start of the first set of the game saw Poland take the lead at 4-1 but before they could get away, the Russian side equalised the set by tying the score at 8-8. Once the Russians came into form, they went on ahead to extend their advantage, leaving the
Polish side trailing during the rest of the set. The Russians bagged the opening set at 25-19.
Capitalising on the momentum generated by winning the initial set of the game, the Russian squad was able to get the lead early on in the second set at 5-1. However, Poland did not give up and brought the set to a tie at 5-5. However, the Russians did not
let the Polish side win and went on to secure the second set at 25-17.
The Polish squad put in an increased effort in the third set with the score tied at 15-15 but the Russians proved to be the better team as they won it at 25-18.
The Russian squad has secured itself the first position in Pool H by scoring six points whereas the Polish side has been able to tally just two points in the second round of the tournament.
