Russia dominates Synchronised Swimming at the 2011 FINA World Championships
The 2011 FINA World Championships ended with the scintillating performances of Russian swimmers in Synchronised Swimming in Shanghai, China, on July 31. Russia took home five gold medals in the event, including the Women’s Technical Teams Routine, Free Combination,
Solo Technical Routine, Duet Technical Routine and Solo Routine.
At the beginning, Russia’s Anastasia Davydova, Maria Gromova, Elvira Khasyanova, Svetlana Kolesnichenko, Daria Korobova, Aleksandra Patskevich, Alla Shishkina and Anzhelika Timanina took home the Women’s Technical Teams Routine crown on the podium with a
sterling score of 98.300 points.
In the meantime, China’s Chang Si, Huang Xuechen, Jiang Tingting, Jiang Wenwen, Liu Ou, Luo Xi, Sun Wenyan and Wu Yiwen snared silver medal in the respective meet with a total mark of 96.800 points.
Spain’s Ciara Basiana, Alba Cabello, Ona Carbonell, Marga Crespi, Andrea Fuentes, Thais Henriquez, Paula Klamburg and Cristina Salvador claimed bronze medal with 96.000 points. Canada finished fourth with a total score of 94.400, while Japan settled fifth
with 93.100 points.
In another event, Russia’s Anastasia Davydova, Maria Gromova, Ishchenko, Elvira Khasyanova, Svetlana Kolesnichenko, Daria Korobova, Aleksandra Patskevich, Svetlana Romashina, Alla Shishkina and Anzhelika Timanina snagged the Women’s Free Combination crown
with a winning score of 98.470 points.
Meanwhile, China earned silver medal on the podium with a sterling mark of 96.390 points and Canada picked bronze title with 96.150 points. Spain wound up fourth with 95.740 points, while Ukraine was placed fifth with a total score of 92.080 points.
Natalia Ishchenko of Russia Won the Women’s Solo Technical Routine crown with a victorious mark of 98.30 points. While speaking about her individual try in the solo technical finale meet, Ishchenko stated, “My coach said my performance was good. It was not
my highest score. I will take part in solo, duets and team this year, so I'm tired.”
Huang Xuechen of China took home the silver medal on the podium with a sterling mark of 96.50 points, while Andrea Fuentes of Spain snagged the bronze medal with a total score of 95.30 points.
Afterwards, the Women’s Duet Technical Routine title was taken over by the Russian pair of Natalia Ishchenko and Romashina Svetlana, with a triumphant score of 98.20 points. After the meet, Natalia said, “The secret is our coach plus hard work. I like this
sport, and we will participate in the Olympic Games. We will work hard, but we can't say what the goal. I have no secret to maintain the top position. Thanks to Chinese spectators.”
Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou of China snatched the silver medal of the meet with a winning mark of 96.50 points, while Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes of Spain captured the bronze medal with an impressive score of 95.40 points.
Natalia Ishchenko then clinched her third individual and fifth golden crown for Russia with a winning score of 98.550 points, while Andrea Fuentes of Spain took home the silver medal on the podium with an impressive mark of 96.520 points. Sun Wenyan of China
snatched the bronze medal with a total score of 95.840 points.
Russia stunned the arena in Shanghai with their wonderful performance in the respective events, while the 2011 World Championships saw the nation take control of proceedings in style.
