hello friends, i am just curious on why common Americans quickly believe what cnn and fox news tell them is true? if you look at a non-biased source of information, clearly Georgia first invaded South Ossetia, and Russia sent troops to defend them, clearly Russia is just helping a neighbor in danger here, no matter what you may believe, Georgia had no right to bomb South Ossetia and kill all of those innocent human beings, my mother was born in Georgia, and her sister lives near the Northern border of Ossetia and even she shares no biast towards Georgia, they attacked South Ossetia first. Let me first state that I am a proud American, the people make this the greatest country in the world, but it just upsets me to see such lies being told by the media, when clearly all it is is false propaganda. Now I am not just defending the Russians, I am defending the truth, and Mikheil Saakashvili should be held responsible for the 3,000 innocent people he killed by sending troops. Whatever argument you present, the truth is Russia was not killing anyone, the first bloodshed started with Georgia's invasion of South Ossetia, without this invasion, there would be no conflict, so you can start hammering away with ignorant comments based on what the news told you, or you can be a true american, and take the time to discover the truth by using your brain. Afterall, when you turned on the news today, did you learn how to believe, or did you learn how to think for yourself. I now this is posted as a question but i just wanted to let that out, thanks for your time, now just curious, what is your take on the situation, and anti-Russia biasm, if you don't agree with me, i completely respect your opinion, but please take the time to research something, not believe the media all the time. thanks, so what are your opinions on the situation?

Don't be concerned with these brain washed American's. Most of them still believe Saddam was behind 911. They will accept believe and defend to their deaths ANYTHING their Government tells them via the Government propaganda networks. Fox, CNN, CNBC and any other major news sources.

  In response to the idiot above who claims America has a free and independent press. Listen to what Scott McClellan is saying. The former Press secretary under Bush W said the White house  sends talking points to FOX NEWS.

  Russian peacekeeping troops have been in Ossetia for years and were approved in international agreements so as to protect the citizens of the region from attacks by the Georgian military.

Georgia's acts of war were ordered by the Minister of Defense who just happens to also be an Israeli citizen, Go figure!  

The fact and truth is this war, like all wars, is another Jewish/Zionist initiated war.  Russia knows this and responded accordingly.

  

As far as most of the responses here goes, Don't let the fact that 98% of Americans are about as intelligent and informed as a tree stump stop you from asking real questions and spreading the truth.

My elder brother is in the combat zone with the Russian troops, and he calls me sometimes. He said Russian army is ready to take over Tbilisi if Saakashvili doesn't cease fire. I hate this war, Im afaid of what can happen to my brother in there, but I'm proud of my country and I think our army will do whats needed to stop the war.

I would cry if it wasn't hilarious. Poor osetia and noble russia defending it. How touching. Truth is that osetia was georgian territory from the begining, than osetians threw all the georgian cityzens out of there and said that they wanted to be a part of russia and after that fire never stopped from osetian separatists. only once georgia answered with fire and now it's promoted as genocide from georgian side. All I said here aren't my opinion, they are all facts.

Totally and completely agree with you. Russia is right! Saakashvili is mentally ill! (I have read the interview with his doctor in the internet). He started the war and provoked Russia to answer.

I am proud that my country is so successfully defending their people and their interests in Osetia!

Thomas X, are you sick? There are a lot of countries, which understand Russia - Cuba, Germany, France, Turkey. You think there is such a democracy in America. Democracy is nowhere. Do you really think, fox news and cnn are independent? Naive, I am in US and I watched them. They tell total nonsense. The only thing they are showing is Georgia and Saakashvili. Simple truth about Georgia and Osetia

What is happening now?

Osetia is a small ethnicity between Russia and Georgia. We have only 100 thousands of people and 2 thousands of them already died because of ETHNIC CLEANSING by Georgians.

What it is happening now is simple GENOCID of Osetians by Georgians.

Who started the war?

Georgia has started the war and genocide by coming to the capitall of Osetia with tanks and cannons. They started to bomb civilians in the small city. And they killed 2000 of them in 3 days!!! All dying people you see in the newspapers – are Osetian defenceless civilians dying from massive shelling. Moreover Gergians also killed many OSCE peacekeepers who stayed on the border and tried to protect Osetia.

Why they do all that?

Osetia has beautiful lands near the coast of the Black Sea. From ancient times Georgia wanted to take those lands. They never ruled Osetia. Georgians already tried to perform mass killings in the past. All we could do to protect ourselves and our lands is to ask our another neighbour – Russia to stop Georgians.

How they could do that?

Why American newspapers and TV doesn’t tell the truth? Why 2 weeks before this attack American soldiers and instructors came to Georgia and made training to Georgian army (it even was shown by American TV). It is simple – America planned and then started dirty campaign against Russia. Dirty because they do it by Georgian hands and because the price for this is OUR LIFES. If nobody stops Georgians – Osetians will physically disappear as ethnicity.

Just look at the numbers with more attention – 2000 Osetians killed against 6 Georgians.

And it happened in Osetia – not in Georgia.

Why Georgian president lies?

He always lies. He lies to us, to his American supporters, to international community. Just remember his latest interview when he sits under the European Union flag, so everybody thinks that Georgia is the part of EU. Georgia was NEVER part of European Union.

What we can do now?

We can eat what official newspapers and TV gives us. But remember when they told us that Iraq had chemical weapon. They bombed Iraq and thousands of Americans were killed to let oil companies earn more on Iraq’s oil. But, who talks about chemical weapon now? The fat is in the fire now.

It is simple like that:

If we don’t stop Georgians now they will take Osetia’s land and kill most of Osetians.

After encouragements and permanent provocations in the region of South Ossetia, from the side of Russian armed non-governmental forces, on the 8th of August Russian military forces attacked Georgian sovereign state! Alongside with 3 days continual air strikes, Russian ground troops attack Georgian peaceful population. Despite of the fact that Georgian President M. Saakashvili announced the ceasefire and signed the four – levelled peace plan regarding the settlement of conflict peacefully, the strikes upon Georgian territory have not stopped from the side of Russian military forces.

Russian aggression has no limits! Russian military attacks caused deaths of thousands of innocent people! State of war has been declared in Georgia and it is hard to foresee future Russian plans.

Minority of Georgian population tries to resist Russian terror in unequal fight! Georgia, as a member of World Society, asks for help from international concord! According to United Nations organization’s chertier and norms of international law, abolishment of the territorial integrity of sovereign state and violent encroachment of its sovereignty is unacceptable.

Except the military challenge with Georgia, Russia uses the fake informational propaganda, by disfiguring the facts. This experiment of ours implies informing the world society correctly regarding the existing situation and we want to make Russian plans and traces of aggression in Georgia, clear to everyone.

The entire international community is condeming Russia'a actions! The only country in the world, who agrees with Russia, is Russia! When will you realise Russia? When will you realise that all of Eastern Europe hates you and does not want to be under your rule!

Oh and by the way, our media is free and indepedent from the state! Unlike Russia, where their media is state controlled! They'll say whatever the Kremlin tells them to say!!!

i am truly very sorry for your relatives, i am russian my parents are in northen ossetia, what i hear on the phone everyday chills me to the bones, this world will not live for much longer...

PS: americans and eu will never tell the truth about russia, simple as that, they never did, they never will...the story goes

again-WW2 was and is turned upside down in the european and american historical books

B.T. the facts are as well that South Ossetia oficially voted to be independed, yes they wanted to rejoin Russia, but its their right, as far as i know, or democracy is only for Europe and USA? ...and to be absolutely clear-they did it cause they didnt want to be the part of georgian politics against Russia, what are american milllitary bases doing their, can you answer that? ....and second statement would be-Saakashvili wanted Georgia get in NATO, but by the law it cant be if there are therritirical problems present, WHY NATO DISREGARDED THE LAW?  the answer is- double standards

Georgia is right. South Ossetia is theirs. Russia should have evacuated their citizens instead of pumping more into the region. They infiltrated the province on purpose to undermine the Georgian government.

The excuse of "protecting their own people" is pure BS and I don't buy it for a second. Russia is afraid of having a NATO nation on their southern border.

Edit:  The Georgians were bombing Ossetian rebels.  They have the right to defend their territory.
