Russia grabs 13th spot in FIVB Boy’s Youth Volleyball World Championship
The Russians competed against the Koreans on August 28th in a FIVB Boy’s Youth Volleyball World Championship match that was being played for the 13th slot. The venue of the competition was Almirante Brown in Argentina and what followed
was a four set long struggle between the sides that saw the Russians emerge as victors in the end.
The first set of the match started off tight but as the game progressed, the Russians were able to dominate the scene. The second set unfolded in much the same way as its predecessor with Russia winning by a comfortable margin. A loss of two sets triggered
the Koreans into action and they were able to bag the frame after putting up a good fight. However, the fourth set was mostly dominated by the Russians and it did not take them long to seal the deal on the match and win it by the following final set scores:
25-18, 25-18, 25-27 and 25-15.
The coach of the Russian team, Vladimir Manerov, expressed himself by giving the following statements at the press conference after the match: "It was an important game for us because it was the last game. We played well. Both teams were tired and we got
four players injured and we must replace them. Thanks to Argentina for all the organization.”
On the other hand, the Korean coach, Eun-Chul Kim, shared his views in this manner: "We tried more moves and passes but we couldn't attack. They blocked us twenty times over three.”
The start of the first set saw both teams struggle to gain dominance but by the time the first technical time out, Russia was leading at 8-6. The Koreans tried to close in the gap but they could not do much except trail behind at 16-13. After the two sides
came back on the courts, it did not take Russia long to bag the opening set at 25-18.
The Russians were still leading at the first and the second technical time outs at 8-4 and 16-11 respectively. Korea kept tagging behind as the Russians drove off to another set win at 25-18.
The two set deficit sent a much needed wakeup call to the Koreans and they started the third set with a determination that took them to a lead of 16-15. The Russians fought hard until the end but the Koreans managed to win the frame at 27-25.
The Russians were leading the fourth set at 8-4 and extended their advantage to 16-9. The Koreans could not perform to the level of their opponents and Russia got an easy win at 25-15.
