Russia tops Pool H by beating Serbia 3-2 in FIVB Volleyball Women’s Junior World Championship
Russia and Serbia were matched up against each other on Thursday, 28th of July in a Pool H match of the FIVB Junior World Championship. The match was part of the second round of the tournament that took place in Peru. Russia wrestled the win from
Serbia by 3-2 to end up topping pool H.
The first set of the game was never ending as both Russia and Serbia fought unitl the very end to bag a win as the Russians took the win. The Serbians bounced back into the game and took the second set by a comfortable margin but the third set was secured
by the Russians. The Serbians equalised the match by winning the fourth set and taking the match to a decisive fifth set, which was won by the Russians, giving them a match win at 26-24, 19-25, 25-19, 20-25 and 15-11.
The Russian coach, Kiryanov Vadim made the following statement after his team had won the match: “The match was awesome and exciting, luckily we won, despise that we committed plenty of mistakes.”
On the other hand, the Serbian coach Pavlicevic Ratko expressed himself in the following words: “It was a great match, we tried to win, it was important for us, and we showed our intentions it in the 2 sets we won. Congratulations to Russia.”
The Russians had the lead in the initial set of the game at 5-1 but the Serbians were able to tie the score soon afterwards. Unfortunately for the Serbians, they could never get a lead and had to let the opening set slip out of their hands at 26-24.
The Serbians came to life in the second set of the game and took the lead at 8-3. From then on, the Serbians dominated the game, with the Russians struggling to take the momentum away from their rivals. However, the Serbians did not let go of the advantage
and bagged the second set at 25-19.
The Russians answered back in the third set and won it at 25-29 as well.
The fourth set saw a tie being reached early on at 4-4 but the Serbians managed to push ahead and stick with the advantage till the very end of the set. The Serbians made the match go on to a fifth set by bagging the fourth one at 25-20.
However, the Russian team did not have a hard time winning the fifth set of the game at 15-11.
The Russian team has been able to finish the second round of the tournament by bagging eight points and securing the top position in Pool H, while the Serbians find themselves in the second place after securing five points.
