Russia vs Canada 1972?

Why was this game significate in canada's history? I know this was more then a hockey series i just can't put it in words.

  2. Because at the time only amateurs were allowed to compete in the Olympics. The '72 Summit Series was important because it was the first that allowed professional hockey players to compete on both sides. This also was important since it was the height of the Cold War and countries citizens on a nationalisim high. This was extremely important to Canada since they felt Canada was the birthplace of the game (hockey).
