Russia wins Technical team preliminary meet: Day two – 2011 FINA World Championships
Russian synchronised swimmers took home the Technical team preliminary round on day two of the FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China, on Monday, July 18.
The Russian team included Anastasia Davydova, Maria Gromova, Elvira Khasyanova, Svetlana Kolesnichenko, Daria Korobova, Aleksandra Patskevich, Alla Shishkina and Anzhelika Timanina.
In the corresponding meet, Russia finished first with a sterling score of 97.70 points. Owing to their scintillating performance in the Technical team preliminary race, Russia has bright chances of notching their third straight world title in Shanghai. Earlier,
Russia snared two gold medals in the corresponding meet at the 2007 and 2009 edition of the World Championships.
In the meantime, China earned second spot with a winning score of 96.00 points. The Chinese team consisted of Xuechen Huang, Tingting Jiang, Wenwen Jiang, Ou Liu, Wenyan Sun and Yiwen Sun.
On the other hand, Spain earned third place honours with a total score of 95.70 points. The Spanish technical team comprised of Clara Basiana, Alba Cabello, Ona Carbonell, Marga Crespi, Andrea Fuentes, Thais Henriquez, Paula Klamburg and Cristina Salvador.
Canada wound up fourth with a total score of 94.00 points, whereas, China settled fifth with 92.80 points. Ukraine’s synchronised swimmers earned sixth spot with a total score of 92.10 and Italy finished seventh with 90.60 points. France grabbed eighth place
with a total score of 88.70, while United States placed ninth with 88.10 points. Great Britain’s team finished tenth with 87.40 points.
In the previous race, Russian pair of Natalia Ishchenko and Romashina Svetlana took home the Women’s Duet Technical routine title with a victorious mark of 98.20 points.
Ishchenko said, “The secret is our coach plus hard work. I like this sport, and we will participate in the Olympic Games. We will work hard, but we can't say what the goal. I have no secret to maintain the top position. Thanks to Chinese spectators.”
China’s Huang Xuechen and Liu Ou won the silver medal with a total score of 96.50 points, while the bronze title went to Ona Carbonell and Andrea Fuentes of Spain with 95.40 points.
