Russia wins by 3-1 against Egypt in a FIVB World Cup match - Volleyball news
The Russian national men’s volleyball team recently met with the Russians in a FIVB World Cup match that is being staged in Japan. The two teams played each other today, November 25, on the second day of the second round of the tournament in Kumamoto. The
competition between the two sides took four thrilling sets to reach its end with the Russians winning by 3-1.
The first set of the match started off on even grounds but as the frame progressed, the Russians emerged with the advantage and secured themselves the opening frame of the game. The second saw the Russians coming out strong, capitalising on the momentum
generated by bagging a win as a result of which the Egyptians kept trailing far behind and the Russians were able to secure the second set by quite a margin.
The loss of the first two sets of the match triggered the Egyptians into stepping up their game and they were able to avoid a clean sweep by winning the third set. However, that was the only moment of glory that the Egyptians experienced as the Russians
smothered their opponents in the fourth set of the game and won the match at the following final set scores: 25-18, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-9.
The coach of the Russian team, Vladimir Alekno, expressed himself in the following way after his team had won the match: “Yesterday we lost to Brazil, but I think this is a sort of catalyst for us, one step back so we can take one step forward again. We
need to think about the next match versus Serbia now.”
On the other hand, the coach of the Egyptian team, Sherif El-shemerly, shared his feelings in the following way: “First I’d like to thank Mr. Alekno and congratulate him on his victory. I think we knew before this match that we were playing a big team with
many stars. In my opinion the Russian team will be one the top teams [competing for] this Cup."
The key component of the Russian win was their superior attack as well as defensive techniques.
