"чтонибудь сделаешь, стоновись лучшим." is not a Russian saying. It's translation of "whatever you do, become the best at it", besides it's wrong in spelling and grammar..

The actual Russian saying or quote... Nothing really comes to mind, even if the equvalent exists, it must be unknown nowadays.

Translation is:

"Что бы ни делал, будь лучшим."
